""What is the purpose of education? The purpose of education is to know the supreme cause, sarva-karana-karanam [Bs. 5.1], and become happy." Lecture, 1973 Bhaktivedanta Gurukula & International School (BGIS) was established in 1976 by world-renowned scholar and spiritual leader Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). He saw the need for a school which would fulfill the spiritual needs of young men. It is based on the traditional concept of gurukula – wherein the student lives at the house of the guru in order to gain knowledge, proper behaviour and good qualities. The school is affiliated to the CISCE board (ICSE/ISC). Exams are taken at the end of Class X and Class XII. The academic program prepares the students for university studies in any part of the world. BGIS is an international school, with staff and students from over 12 countries of the world. Teaching staff are continuously trained and educated to enhance their effectiveness. Small classes make the atmosphere caring and personal. It is located in the rich cultural and spiritual town of Vrindavan, India.
