Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School (BGIS) is a primary and secondary boarding school for boys, Grades 3 - 12. The school was founded in 1976 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON.
Although there are many boarding schools in India, BGIS is unique in many ways. We keep the student body small (200 – 250) for quality care and personal interactions. We focus on the needs of the individual, and facilitate the development of each student's natural skills and talents. We are strict vegetarians, and philosophy is a daily class for all students. Staff and students come from all corners of the world. The residential school at BGIS is based on the traditional educational concept of 'Gurukula' (the sanskrit word for the school or ashram of the Guru), wherein young boys were trained in sense and mind control, and the study of the Vedas (philosophy). Such a foundational education provided an excellent preparation for the responsibilities, both personal and social, of the future adult. Thus, spiritual studies and practices are a very important part of the student’s educational experience, which make BGIS one of the Top Boarding Schools in India. |
